Public Transit
There are two main providers of public transit in the region, VIA Metropolitan Transit (www.viainfo.net) and Area Rural Transit (ART) operated by the Alamo Area Council of Governments (www.aacog.com).
VIA provides affordable transportation to 98 percent of Bexar County, including unincorporated parts of Bexar County and the following municipalities: Alamo Heights, Balcones Heights, Castle Hills, China Grove, Converse, Elmendorf, Kirby, Leon Valley, Olmos Park, San Antonio, Shavano Park, St. Hedwig, Terrell Hills, and Bexar county portions of Cibolo. In Fiscal Year 2016, VIA had a total ridership of 38,334,650 on the scheduled lines and of 1,174,104 on VIATrans.
ART provides public transit services to the rural counties of the region in an on-demand basis. In Fiscal Year 2106, ART provided services to Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, McMullen, and Wilson.
